Meet Our Team!

Heinz Gehner

Executive Director

While going to college, I started my career in the hotel business driving the shuttle bus on the overnight shift. I quickly became interested in the hospitality industry and continued to learn and grow in the industry. Over 15 years I went from a graveyard shuttle driver to a regional manager running 23 hotels over five states. I decided this industry was not fulfilling my need to help people. I quit my job and moved from Alaska back to Seattle where I got started in Senior Living by taking a job cleaning rooms, doing laundry, and floorcare for a skilled nursing facility. That was 12 years ago. Since then I became an Area Manager running the back of the house for 13 skilled nursing facilities from Bellingham to Seattle and from Bremerton up to Port Angeles on the Peninsula. From there, I took a job as the Director of Marketing and Sales for a Skilled Nursing Facility in Renton. I then got my chance in Independent and Assisted Living.
I found my passion here and after a year of doing sales for a luxury community in Seattle, I was offered a chance to run my first community. This was a 104-unit community that offered Independent Living and Assisted Living, as well as Memory Care. Since that time, I have also run an 84 unit Assisted Living and Memory Care Community as well as a 40-unit Memory Care only community. My goal when I first started in this industry was to someday run Garden Court Retirement Community. I am so happy to join the team and be a part of the Garden Court family. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time on my hobby farm with my wife, 10 kids, and 27 animals!

Kim West

Marketing Director

I have been at Garden Court since January of 2020. I have been working with seniors in the Seattle area and Arizona for over 16 years and could not imagine doing anything else!

I enjoy learning about each resident’s history, their family, and how I can make a difference in their lives. I enjoy hearing about what they are looking forward to each day. This may be working in their garden bed, participating in exercise and strengthening classes, seeing their family, enjoying lunch with their friends, or relaxing in the courtyard with a good book.

Keeping a work/life balance is important for all of us. I work to achieve this through gardening (roses in particular), boating, camping, and spending time with my husband and our rescue dog, Jackson.

Nicole Purcell

Registered Nurse

I earned my LPN license in 2012 and my RN in 2015. I have worked in adult family homes, a psych stabilization and detox center, labor and delivery, a skilled nursing facility, and inpatient at a hospital. I tried to get as much experience as I could while finding my niche’ in nursing. As soon as I walked into Garden Court for my interview, I knew this is where I wanted to be. I have been very happy in my position here at Garden Court since June 2019. I love being a nurse, and I truly believe that you treat others how you want to be treated.

I am married with two sons, ages 8 and 16! I love spending as much time as I can with them and my extended family. I love working in the yard planting flowers and cooking. I was born and raised in Mount Vernon, WA, and attended Skagit Valley College.

Dora

Events and Adventures Director

  1. How long have you worked at Garden Court?

Since 2003, 17+ years. I started as a housekeeper and became the head housekeeper after four weeks. I remained in housekeeping for three years. I then moved to the Dining Room Manager and held that position for nine years. Five years ago, I became the Activities Director.

  1. Why do you love working at Garden Court?

I love serving a great generation. Every moment I spend with the residents, I continue to learn from them. They are my inspiration and my motivation. They are my family. My philosophy is to “touch, move, and inspire” the members of our community. Always take a moment to listen to their story. Show them they are important and loved.

  1. What has been your best memory at Garden Court?

I have so many memories…I could write a book!  The most memorable events include:

  • Helping plan and execute the weddings and reception of 3 couples in our community.
  • June is the month of weddings, so we put out a display of our residents on their wedding day. Some of our residents did not get to wear a wedding dress when they “tied the knot”, so we gathered together some dresses and veils, put together beautiful bouquets, and walked those beautiful brides down the aisle in style.

I have been touched in so many ways by the residents and their families.
